Caris LeVert surprisingly joined TJ Warren and Edmond Sumner on the Pacers injury list to start camp.
The Pacers started training camp with a Tuesday morning Woj bomb sharing news the a stress fracture in Caris LeVert’s back would sideline him indefinitely in the preseason.
The hope that LeVert will be ready to roll by the time the regular season tips was given a boost later in the day on Tuesday when the Pacers guard spoke on the setback.
“Slight discomfort. Up until today I’ve been practicing and doing all that type of stuff,” LeVert said. “So it’s not anything severe, but you know, obviously something to be cautious about.”
“This is pretty minor compared to all that I’ve been through,” LeVert said, making the obvious point that the staggering cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgery and recovery last season was major. Still, the team is waiting for more feedback before setting a timetable.
LeVert continues to get up shots and work on his conditioning. Despite going about offseason work without restrictions, LeVert admitted it is something he’s noticed the past couple of months. So, considering the Pacers have redefined “minor setback” in regards to injuries of late, don’t bet your paycheck on LeVert being cleared for the season opener.
TJ Warren waiting for next evaluation
On Media Day, both TJ Warren and Edmond Sumner were wearing boot casts on their respective lower leg injuries. Warren’s left foot stress fracture has been healing a bit slower than anticipated, but he hasn’t had any unexpected setbacks during the rehab process.
Warren said he will have the foot re-evaluated in three weeks and then he and the team will have a better understanding of when he may be ready to ramp up his basketball activities.
Rick Carlisle made no definite statements regarding Warren’s prognosis, but did say he thought it would be weeks, instead of months before we see the silky scorer on the floor, again.
Edmond Sumner seemed to be getting around pretty well considering his recent surgery on his torn left Achilles tendon. Carlisle had Sumner speak with two of his former players, J.J. Barea and Dwight Powell, who both had similar Achilles injuries.
