Myles Turner: 'I think the years of the super teams and stacking, it's just not as effective as it once was'

June 4, 2025 by Hoops Hype

“I think it’s a new blueprint for the league,” said Myles Turner, the longest-tenured Pacers player. “I think the years of the super teams and stacking, it’s just not as effective as it once was, you know what I mean? Since I’ve been in the league, the NBA has been very trendy; it just shifts. But the new trend now is just kind of what we’re doing. OKC does the same thing — young guys get out and run, defend and use the power of friendship.”

More on this storyline

Ahead of that campaign, the team organized a trip to Nashville, Tennessee to get together ahead of the season. They bonded and worked hard on the hardwood. Star guard Tyrese Haliburton and the newly-added Bruce Brown were the leaders when it came to planning that trip. Turner showed up and was struck by the attendance. “Just seeing everybody’s ability man… seeing the dedication,” Turner recalled of the team playing in the Music City. They were able to get on the same page before the season even started, and only T.J. McConnell (recently became a dad) and Daniel Theis (coming off of international play) didn’t make the trip. It was as close to a training camp as a possible given how much of the roster made the trek. -via Forbes.com / June 2, 2025
Williams says Turner and the Pacers have a similar background to the Thunder, which came to mind after watching Turner discuss how close his team is during a press conference. “He made a really good point. I think teams that get along well and actually have a real chemistry it’s starting to show a little more. You’re starting to get to the NBA just naturally getting younger, and I think we’re kind of in that transition now,” Williams said. “I think it’s cool that you have two small-market teams playing on this big stage. That’s really cool, too. But he made a good point; they are pretty close to us in regards to how close they are as a team. “Obviously, I’m not in their locker room. So, I don’t know, but outside looking in, they look like they have a lot of fun playing with each other. Their crowd is really into it. Their city loves them. So, that’s kind of around the same thing as us,” Williams concluded. -via Clutch Points / June 2, 2025
The 27-year-old began the Eastern Conference finals as the backup center, but poor showings in Games 1 and 2 led to him being benched in Games 3 and 4 in favor of Tony Bradley, who initially joined the Pacers on a 10-day contract in March. It wasn’t until Bradley strained his hip in Game 5 that Bryant regained his spot in the rotation and gave the Pacers a jolt in Game 6. Siakam called Bryant’s resurgent performance a reward from “the basketball Gods.” Carlisle credited Bryant’s “indomitable spirit.” Turner simply thanked his teammate for his professionalism. “Man, I’ve been playing against Thomas since high school,” Turner said. “He’s always had that enthusiasm, that energy and that skill. … And he didn’t complain. He didn’t pout. If you watch any film, bro, he’s the first one up on the bench (cheering), first one gassing us up, talking to us and getting us right. Me going down in foul trouble, he got his opportunity (Saturday) and he didn’t look back.” -via New York Times / June 1, 2025
