INDIANAPOLIS — Today is the first in a series of “Blue and Gold Days” in the city of Indianapolis.
In a proclamation that Joe Hogsett signed Thursday, the Indy mayor is asking for Indianapolis residents to proclaim their Pacers pride as the team is facing the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals.
According to previous reports, the NBA Finals series begins at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday in Oklahoma City. The game will air on ABC.
In the proclamation, Hogsett highlights the Pacers’ journey to the NBA Finals, the first appearance by the team in the finals in 25 years. The journey included defeating the Milwaukee Bucks, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks.
“Each series has featured odds-defying comebacks, blazing pace and brilliant teamwork,” the proclamation states. “They embody the best qualities of Indiana basketball with their unselfish play, next man up mentality and unwavering grit, regardless of the circumstances…”
Hogsett encouraged fans to join in festivities that celebrate the Indiana Pacers, from attending a fan rally, a watch party or attending a game in person.
“Indianapolis – please join me in flying your Pacers flag with pride, wearing your favorite blue and gold apparel, and loudly cheering on and supporting our Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals,” Hogsett said in a post on social media. “I’m proud to proclaim today, June 5, as the start of ‘Blue and Gold Days’ in our city.”
